Silent pandemic: AMR behind 3 million child deaths in 2022

More than 3 million children globally died in 2022 due to infections associated with antimicrobial resistance (AMR), according to new data from a landmark study presented at ESCMID Global 2025.  The study highlights the growing threat of AMR to paediatric populations who are highly vulnerable to infections, particularly in high-burden regions such as South-East Asia and Africa, and calls for urgent global and regional action to strengthen surveillance, stewardship, and treatment protocols.
